Graduate Scholarships

Scholarships have been created by alumni, faculty, and friends in collaboration with the Department of Psychology to recognize outstanding students and to provide financial resources to help in their education. If interested, please complete one form for the scholarship/award for which you’d like to be considered and turn in your application to the main office (Arts & Sciences 341). The Dr. Paul E. Panek Endowed Scholarship in Psychology

Christine Franklin Panek established The Dr. Paul E. Panek Endowed Scholarship in Psychology at ¹ú²ú¾«Æ· of Akron in loving memory of her husband Dr. Paul E. Panek.  Dr. Panek was born in Springfield, Massachusetts, November 13, 1946.  He received a bachelor of arts in psychology from Central Connecticut State College in 1969, a master of science in psychology from the University of Bridgeport in 1973, and his Ph.D. in developmental psychology in 1977 from ¹ú²ú¾«Æ· of Akron.  He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Vietnam War from 1969-1971.  Dr. Panek was a professor, administrator, researcher/author and practicing psychologist.  He passed away December 28, 2007, having made many contributions in higher education and psychology.

The Dr. Paul E. Panek Endowed Scholarship in Psychology was established by Christine Franklin to support a graduate student active in research in an effort to help advance and retain high-caliber graduate students and maintain the University’s legacy of excellence in the field of psychology.  The award may be used for the scholar’s research related expenses.


The Department of Psychology Community Service Award

The Department of Psychology Community Service Award is presented to one student in the Department of Psychology who exemplifies a strong commitment to the community and works toward improving the lives of others and the world around us. 


The Department of Psychology Travel Award 

The Department of Psychology Travel Award is presented to deserving psychology undergraduate and graduate students to help cover the costs associated with traveling to various conferences to present their research and/or the opportunity to attend development workshops, colloquiums, etc. that advance the students training and expertise.
